They’re going to test the memory statues tonight! Phlox says it could be dangerous, so we can’t come. But, what if we didn’t use the door and snuck in the other way?
~ Lami

Lami was a Nomai who grew up on Brittle Hollow and Ember Twin. Their sibling was Laevi and their aunt was Pye.[1][2]

Early life[]

Lami played the Anglerfish game in the Sunless City with Laevi, Taget, Ilex, and Solanum. Lami was still small enough to climb through the hole at the Anglerfish Overlook to give the fossil a new lantern.[3] When Laevi wanted to add a rule that the child who played the anglerfish had to wear a blindfold, Lami thought the game was too hard if they could not see anything.[4] Ilex eventually updated this rule so that the younger children did not have to wear a blindfold.[5]

Lami went to school in the Hanging City, where they wrote an explanation of the Nomai's festivals.[6]

Statue Workshop[]

When the Ash Twin Project began, Lami, Laevi, and Taget moved to the Statue Workshop on Giant's Deep, where Phlox was creating the memory statues. Phlox told them not to come inside during a test of the statues, but Lami wanted to sneak in through the other entrance.[7] However, Taget and Laevi told Lami that they should not do this as the risk is too high.[8]

When the Ghost Matter from the Interloper instantly flooded the solar system, Lami passed away along with all other Nomai.

Trivia[]

  • Lamium (otherwise known as dead-nettles) are a genus of flowering plants native to Asia, Europe and parts of Africa.

  1. LAMI: I’m still small enough! LAEVI: You won’t be for long. Mom and Dad are tall, so you and I will be tall, too.
  2. LAMI: Why are we changing it? It’s too hard if you can’t see anything! LAEVI: Aunt Pye says real anglerfish are blind, so you have to wear a blindfold! The rule stands!
  3. TAGET: Are we playing the fossil fish game tonight? SOLANUM: I fed the fossil fish a new lantern. If you go to the Stepping Stone Cave, the entrance to the Fossil Fish Cave is easy to see now. LAEVI: Gratitude, Solanum! It’s good you’re small enough to climb in through the hole at the Anglerfish Overlook. LAMI: I’m still small enough!

  5. ILEX: Rule update: It’s okay if younger kids don’t wear the blindfold when they’re it. (The rest of us will still wear it for scientific accuracy and to make the game more even.)
  6. LAMI: Explanation of Festivals LAMI: All the Nomai clans from all over the universe meet in one place to share what they’ve learned in science and art. It’s called the festival!
  7. LAMI: They’re going to test the memory statues tonight! Phlox says it could be dangerous, so we can’t come. LAMI: But, what if we didn’t use the door and snuck in the other way? Does anyone want to?
  8. TAGET: Phlox specifically told us not to do that. LAEVI: I really want to see the test, too, Lami, but that’s a huge risk to take. We probably shouldn’t. Maybe Phlox’ll let us see a later test.
